Senior Support Specialist / Linux Systems Engineer(Web hosting)

Job description

As a Senior Support Specialist / Linux Systems Engineer, you are responsible for resolving complex and high-impact technical issues. You are the person who takes over when tickets become challenging.

This role is not junior and not script-based support. You are expected to:

  • Diagnose problems deeply
  • Take ownership until resolution
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers
  • Make technical decisions independently

In addition to support, you actively work on server management and infrastructure improvements.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in hosting, Linux system administration, or similar roles
  • Strong experience with Linux (CLI/SSH)
  • Solid knowledge of: Apache / web servers, DNS, FTP, Linux firewalls (iptables, firewalld, CSF)
  • Experience with control panels such as DirectAdmin, Plesk, and/or cPanel
  • Proven experience in the web hosting industry (this is a must)
  • Experience managing production servers independently
  • Comfortable handling escalations and complex technical issues
  • Strong written English communication skills

Preferred Skills

Responsibilities

  • Handle complex and escalated support tickets
  • Troubleshoot and configure Linux-based hosting environments
  • Manage and maintain managed servers for customers
  • Perform server updates, upgrades, and new server deployments
  • Work with custom Linux, DNS, mail (Exim), and web server configurations
  • Support and improve our hosting platform and internal infrastructure
  • Identify recurring issues and propose structural improvements
  • Communicate clearly with customers via ticketing systems and messaging tools
  • Collaborate remotely with the team using Slack

  • Fixed support hours, defined in consultation
  • Minimum 3 hours daily overlap with CET
  • Weekend or evening work only when agreed in advance

  • Direct communication, no micromanagement

Desired Skills

  • Experience with WordPress and common CMS environments
  • Knowledge of MySQL and PHP
  • Experience with Node.js and/or Python
  • Dutch language skills
